Crocuta crocuta (Spotted hyena) is the only species in the genus Crocuta. It differs from other members of the Hyaenidae in its rounded ears, rather flat head, thick neck, rounded rump. and its spotted pelt.It isalso the largest member of the family, adults measuring 95-166 cm in body length and having a shoulder height of 70-92 cm.
Its range includes most of sub-Saharan Africa.
