Circaetus is a genus of eagles with rounded heads and broad wings. They prey on reptiles, mainly snakes, but also take lizards and occasionally small mammals. They are mainly resident African species, but Circaetus gallicus, the short-toed snake eagle, is migratory breeding from the Mediterranean basin into Russia, the Middle East and India, and winterings from sub-Saharan Africa east to Indonesia.
